When Karun joined the Sky F1 team I remember saying he wasn't quite polished, but given some time, would be a good presenter.

Nowadays I love his insights and analysis. He's someone I look forward to seeing on screen.

WRT Naomi - I think she's at the "not quite polished" stage right now - but her target audience isn't the analysis type stuff that Karun does. I saw her in a few social media videos with drivers and other (more established) personalities. She's clearly targetting the younger crowd, who like the not-so-serious side of F1 and can associate with their favourite streamers/pundits etc.

I don't think it's a problem. F1 has to appeal to all audiences, so having someone on screen the next generation can associate with, purely by "here's this streamer, here's a tiktok challenge, blahblah" - well, that's how you keep the kids engaged. Liberty, for whatever you can fault them for, are doing a good job of engaging viewers and getting audiences. I'm part of the YouTube generation and I fell out of love with F1 for a few years when Bernie's regime made sure that nothing was shared on social media. Hiding it all behind your parents' paywall made sure that a lot of 25-30 year olds these days don't care for the sport, because why would they care about something they couldn't watch?

Given some time I think Naomi will find her feet in the role. I'm looking forward to seeing more of the light-hearted side of F1. Arguably some drivers are already in that mindset.

You know, there are now 4 or so Black/Asian contributor to the F1 coverage that we all watch. There’s a camp Asian chap (I don’t know his name) a tall black guy with an Afro that talks technical and pitlane stuff. Karun and Naomi. That’s it, probably 1% or so of all pundits up and down the pit lane. Further, all are now part of the furniture so to speak - we don’t see colour, race or sexual orientation, we just listen to what they have to say and agree on that, or not. This is progress, guys.

For some, they argue that they’d rather just have the best on their screen - race, and all that “woke” stuff should not count. I hear that but how do we progress as a society, to be more inclusive, diverse? We can only progress if others are given a chance. The rest is up to them.

All i'd say is that a pundit should have relevant experience. Karun has this in abundance on the driving side of an F1 car, Sam has the the degree in the technical side, Naomi has neither.

As a presenter she would be great, she can interview very well, as someone to answer questions on the technical side of driving an F1 car forget it.

He isn't an F1 analyst, he is the program anchor.

Why have you given that link?

Presumably because it gives four people the job title of "expert", all former F1 or Indycar drivers but does not afford the "expert" title to Naomi Schiff?
