When Karun joined the Sky F1 team I remember saying he wasn't quite polished, but given some time, would be a good presenter.

Nowadays I love his insights and analysis. He's someone I look forward to seeing on screen.

WRT Naomi - I think she's at the "not quite polished" stage right now - but her target audience isn't the analysis type stuff that Karun does. I saw her in a few social media videos with drivers and other (more established) personalities. She's clearly targetting the younger crowd, who like the not-so-serious side of F1 and can associate with their favourite streamers/pundits etc.

I don't think it's a problem. F1 has to appeal to all audiences, so having someone on screen the next generation can associate with, purely by "here's this streamer, here's a tiktok challenge, blahblah" - well, that's how you keep the kids engaged. Liberty, for whatever you can fault them for, are doing a good job of engaging viewers and getting audiences. I'm part of the YouTube generation and I fell out of love with F1 for a few years when Bernie's regime made sure that nothing was shared on social media. Hiding it all behind your parents' paywall made sure that a lot of 25-30 year olds these days don't care for the sport, because why would they care about something they couldn't watch?

Given some time I think Naomi will find her feet in the role. I'm looking forward to seeing more of the light-hearted side of F1. Arguably some drivers are already in that mindset.

You know, there are now 4 or so Black/Asian contributor to the F1 coverage that we all watch. There’s a camp Asian chap (I don’t know his name) a tall black guy with an Afro that talks technical and pitlane stuff. Karun and Naomi. That’s it, probably 1% or so of all pundits up and down the pit lane. Further, all are now part of the furniture so to speak - we don’t see colour, race or sexual orientation, we just listen to what they have to say and agree on that, or not. This is progress, guys.

For some, they argue that they’d rather just have the best on their screen - race, and all that “woke” stuff should not count. I hear that but how do we progress as a society, to be more inclusive, diverse? We can only progress if others are given a chance. The rest is up to them.

All i'd say is that a pundit should have relevant experience. Karun has this in abundance on the driving side of an F1 car, Sam has the the degree in the technical side, Naomi has neither.

As a presenter she would be great, she can interview very well, as someone to answer questions on the technical side of driving an F1 car forget it.

What experience has Simon Lazenby got?

He isn't an F1 analyst, he is the program anchor.

Naomi is being introduced as an F1 analyst.

Lawrence Barretto is the person referred to as camp, he is a journalist/presenter.

He’s the presenter, or in news terms the anchor which, when you’re aware of all that goes on is a specific role requiring TV skills, not F1 or motorsport skills.

Referring yet again to the footage Jake Humphrey put out ( https://youtu.be/BheV32Xe_W8 ) showing what’s going on in his ear (not the other peoples eara) and how on a live broadcast it’s rapidly changing by the minute. It’s a specific skill few people in the TV industry manage to develop.

He’s also there to ask questions to which he probably (by now, admittedly perhaps not so much when he first started) knows the answers to, he’s the voice of the (perhaps uninformed) viewer.

Presumably because it gives four people the job title of "expert", all former F1 or Indycar drivers but does not afford the "expert" title to Naomi Schiff?

I posted she is being introduced as an F1 analyst. That is how Sky introduce her.

Because she’s down, at least in the Radiotimes, as a “host” not an expert. Danica is an expert as is Button, Nico and Damon. Pinkham & Brooke’s are down as reporters and hosts. Naomi is hosting a show called Any Driven Monday.

Does that change your opinion of her, or would you rather she didn’t speak at all?

Her role at Sky as introduced by Sky is as an F1 analyst, as shown in my video link.

W Series also name her as an F1 Analyst. https://wseries.com/presenters/naomi-schiff/

That is her role, she isn't there to do Pink's job or Rachel's job or Simons job.

She has a long way to go in that role, if she applies herself she no doubt can do it very well, but so far she is giving no real insight and answers queries she doesn't know the details on with a guess, rather than simply saying she doesn't know, but will find out.

Maybe it's a new generation thing where it's not allowed to not know an answer, and bullst is acceptable, if so the ouput becomes worthless.

I like Naomi, she has potential and i understand she is new to the role, hopefully someone at Sky is giving her the training she needs, because she needs to improve to offer something interesting.

I expect i am not the market for SKY these days, so i doubt they care either way. It's tabloid levels of details which isn't something i care for. I understand in the times of entertainment before sport, I'm an old git who is dying out, but even old gits can be well catered for without resorting to bullst, if the effort is put in.

Thankfully 3/4 of them were hired for their ability/experience.

A bit going on there and it's just minutes between each live bit all very cool and calm but just thinking on his feet what to do at each stage, no stumbles, no pauses gives you an idea of the skills needed.

I guess they are all so polished that it looks easy but clearly it's not.

Good point

But I reiterate I think 90% of it is him just being the twerp that he is, but some of it comes from SKY, they could reign it in , but they are so clueless they think it means he is on it and keen, when in fact he is just a fat, take it all idiot who lucked into a job and sport he knows nothing about as he never references much history. Because he knows nothing other than the garbage stats he writes down
