A 570s sold on cc yesterday for £68,500 + fee?

https://collectingcars.com/for-sale/2016-mclaren-5...

These seem a great buy at those sort of prices.
I'm reading that page as "07/06/22" i.e. June, so three months ago rather than yesterday. That also means the Mc warranty remaining was ten months at the point of sale.

CC fees are that the buyer pays an extra 6% on top of the sale price, capped at £6k. In this case it's basically £4k of fees for a total cost to the buyer of £72,600 .

That's for a fairly early high mileage car in a slightly odd spec, and one where the buyer presumably still has to put an MoT on it.

It also seems to have missed it's last service which will probably make the Warranty null and void.

I paid £96k for my 2018 570S Spider at the beg of 2021. Cheap for a spider esp. considering it was 1 owner and had carbon exterior/interior and balance of McL warranty. Great car, lot of fun for the money, cheap to run excluding warranty cost. Not too much out there that compares at entry level costs

Good spot on the missed service, could be a costly omission for somebody.

Sounds like not only a great car but a well-timed purchase - interesting to hear more evidence of how much cheaper they recently were.

Since then prices have risen and the cheapest spider is another £10k over what you paid for yours. The sixty-four thousand dollar question is, to what extent is this rise putting prices back 'where they belong', supported by market demand, and to what extent is it a temporary post-covid-rebound effect that's destined to reverse over the coming 6-12 months?

I don't claim to know the answer, but discussion & variety of views here is all interesting.

I am hunting for a 600 LT, spotted that a few this week have dropped 5-8k in price, though typically cars which were priced north of 160k, cars are hanging around, only really good spec (carbon, senna seats) are selling and only when in the 150k region of price.

An interest rate hike on the cards today / next week and winter approaching I can see prices softening for sure on Mclarens and also many other brands of super car as well.

I am sitting on my money, can see a 600LT Spider around 130-140k early next year, back to where they started at beginning of pandemic. As to 570S I can see a few more trading hands in the 65-75k region, so much car for the money.

10-15% across the board, which is line with supercars imo.

I dont see the 570s dropping that low, a good example is 90-100k plus, 25% or more would be a big ask. A very base spec with high miles maybe but that doesnt represent the market at all.

There is nothing new down the line, no more sport series, no more v8's, whilst hybrids might be the "future", the last of the ice cars will be in demand, same goes for the 600lt, 650s etc

If i had sat on my money last year i would have missed an absolute great year and a half of ownership, its time i could never get back had i sat on the fence, i was prepared to loose some money for the experience.

Jump in now, if your financing any money and interest rates keep rising, your loosing all the time anyway.

This is exactly the price I remember them being and sitting around for a while too, a spider was easily around 85-95k depending on spec etc. Those same cars and I mean same cars or similar spec cars are now up for 110-120k.
Some sold some are still sitting around unmoved

Man maths:

Price was v high on the car I was selling - so maximised the sell point for that

Reiterating what was said above, 90-100 was the 'average' for a 570GT for age, spec, mileage.

I've bought from a dealer, so I can equate 4k per year of the spend being the warranty provided. The peace of mind here is priceless

Financing now before the rates jump saves a penny. Rates are only going one way for the foreseeable future - which then generates the downside, that it will force prices to drop.

The finance company put considerable thought into the value of the car after 3 years - this is where the risk is for them. The biggest challenge is they dont know what the value will be. Will the car be only worth 50K, will it be 70? There are no 570's to compare it to. Compare it against the MP12 and what that did doesn't take into account when McL launch competing cars.

Paying 95k now knowing that there is a bubble on prices accepts that there will be point in which the value drops beyond the curve of just age/mileage depreciation. There whole second hand car market is currently stuffed - but for supercars it isn't connected to the same issues. Elsewhere supply and demand (there are few new cars, parts are a nightmare, price of oil is more volatile than ever) has resulted in huge bubbles for 'normal' cars - I know, I've exploited it to sell my previous car. The bubble on supercars does exist - but IMHO not to the same extreme. There is a smaller market and people who can afford will be still willing to pay for the limited number of vehicles available. I dont think this bubble will pop - just slowly deflate as the number of people able to pay is reduced due to inflation/cost of living / loss of disposable income.

there will always be plus and minus in making a luxury acquisition and all you can do is make the best case judgment at the time. I thought early in the pandemic that luxury car prices would dip and sold my aston early for probably 10k-15k less than what I could have 6-9 months later but other things went well so cant complain. If you are in the position to do it my vote is do it and enjoy it. i bought a few months ago at maybe the height but got a great rate on the finance so super happy with my purchase.

I bought my low-mileage 570S spider 18 months ago for £120K from a main dealer and twelve months later I hadn't noticed anything of a comparable spec going for anything less. Prices have probably softened a touch now as we've entered Autumn but only by a bit.

Prices are generally firm at the moment however the number of cars available has risen:

570s coupe
- Aug 2021 = 10
- Sep 2022 = 44

570s spyder
- Apr 2021 = 5
- Sep 2022 = 26

Surely supply will begin to affect price?

I was in McLaren Glasgow last week to drop mine off and they are very short of stock. The car park was busy but a few non McLarens for sale (taken as PX) and I'm guessing customer cars awaiting service.

I think they had 8 McLarens in stock at the time. Quite a change from last year when there around 40!

Amazing how the last two posts say completely different things about the McLaren used car market....1 saying loads for sale compared to before and the next saying very little for sale.

A couple of years ago I just missed out on a 2017 570S with 6k miles and a high spec like carbon packs etc which was at £87k. That same car 2 years older would probably be £90-95k in the current market so I think they will soften a little given where they were previously but expect they will settle between £80-£90k as it still represents amazing value for money for a supercar.

When i was looking, Feb/March 2021 there were roughly 20 ish coupes and spiders on ph, 40 ish on Autotrader and you are spot on, they halved by summer on both, i think ph was down to 12 at one point.

Currenly 253 Mclarens total for sale on PH and what can you buy new from Mclaren at the moment, i dont think we need to worry about over supply.

Not 570 specific, sorry, but I keep an eye on 650s spiders for sale. Gone from 2 to 7 cars for sale on PH in a couple of weeks - with asking prices also going up! Not sure what that is about...

Ive had a 570s spider at mine for the past week as a friends gone on holiday. It’s been fun driving my 650S back to back with it.

I can’t put my finger on it but there is definitely something missing from the 570 compared to the 650, both engine and chassis.

It’s not the proactive chassis ride quality and not outright pace either. Looking forward to trying a 720S soon to compare.

Think the comparison of cars for sale in April and September isnt quite like for like. Plenty of cars go up for sale post summer

Fair point. Here's the comparison year on year including 2020, still a huge increase in availability this year.

570s coupe
- Sep 2020 = 18
- Sep 2021 = 12
- Sep 2022 = 44

570s spyder
- Sep 2020 = 13
- Sep 2021 = 14
- Sep 2022 = 26
