I dunno - this cover of Wicked Game by Ursine Vulpine and Annaca (used to advertise Forza Horizon 3 on Xbox) is pretty stunning:
Its a nope from me as well. There are good cover versions of that but it's not that one.Edited by Funk on Wednesday 1st March 00:13
London Grammar was OK

This one wins for me.
Get out your good headphones
I wouldn't say this was better than the original by any stretch of the imagination, but it's certainly different. And amazing skill.

I am starting to get the impression that, for some of you, "better than the original" just means it's a cover sung by pretty women.
Here's something a little different then. Paz Lenchantin Venus in Furs: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PhVNZp3ckhY

Thanks for the welcoming post. I believe that both my links have merit, which was why I posted them. And, frankly, I do not require your blessing in order to post.

First one is very impressive, agreed. Totally different, and lacks the drama of the original, but as you say, hell of a skill.(It was sent to me by a friend)

Second...doesn't do it for me...there's very little emotion in her voice, very little animal passion (compare with the original, where the need and the hurt are pouring out of Trent's voice). That song is designed to be sung from the groin, and she seems like she could be singing about lollipops and rainbows. I've heard good remixes of Closer before (got the two-disc single somewhere), and that's not one.
Want a decent example of a woman covering a NIN track - try St Vincent:-

Fair comment. Although I liked that she was doing digital looping in order to lay down the track, and I've always been a fan of that. Having said that, Beardyman has kind of nailed the art now. Louis Balfour said:

Through a work colleague I've recently been introduced to PostModern Jukebox. This is a performing arts group that does the most fantastic covers of pop and rock songs in a totally different style, like so:
The Final Countdown, as a 20s Cabaret:
Running Up That Hill, as a Western:
...and my absolute favourite - Dont Stop Believing, as a vintage Jazz ensemble with an amazing one-take action video:

PMJ is awesome; I have been a fan for years. Slightly off topic, but if you like PMJ then you might like Tape Five, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, and the genre of Electroswing in general.
Big Bad Voodoo Daddy do a modern "big band" sound and are great fun. Very few covers though so, as I said, slightly off-topic.
If you want to dip into Electroswing then there is an internet radio station dedicated to it
https://www.electroswing-radio.com/
(Obviously you take pot luck with a radio station, so don't write off the whole genre if they happen to be playing a bad song when you listen)
