Could it be that they had a disagreement, row if you like and Lewis told her to do one?
And then post a super positive message on instagram?

I think this announcement is like a movement of a deckchair on the Titanic.
Not sure why people are so interested in it tbh.

The question the interviewer asked Toto was do the team have any involvement in selecting Lewis’s physio. He said it’s Lewis’s decision that they part ways (not the team’s). That’s not really the same as saying Lewis sacked her.

That was my impression too. I think people are trying to read too much into this. Between it being the anniversary of Lewis hiring her, so likely contract end, and her having a family she hardly sees, together with her having been paid pretty well I should imagine, probably just decided to call it a day.

Yes, Toto’s comment was taken out of context. IIRC, Angela (along with many other driver physios) is employed by Hinsta Performance, and contracted to Lewis (not Mercedes, despite the team shirt).

So what Toto was saying, is that the driver’s physio is up to the driver. Somehow I don’t think he’ll be advertising on LinkedIn or Facebook for the role, but calling Hinsta and see if they have anyone willing to give up their life for a few years.

The only thing a bit odd is the timing, after one race in the season. Maybe Lewis has said to her ‘hey Ang, this is gonna be a stshow, so you might not want to bother trailing around with this shower…’
That is probably it, why would you waste a good friends time for a year or more.

(As for those who cant see an obvious photoshop and other comments.... you self identifying morons.)

Kinda ignores the 2nd part of Toto's statement 'and if things don't work out anymore...'

Contracts wouldn't end mid season - first one would run to season end then subsequent ones would be for the whole season.

And after almost a decade embedded with the Merc team if it was planned prior to 2 wks ago you'd think there would be some leaving acknowledgement at the last race, even if not announced publicly.

It was obviously a sudden decision, Lewis says it was Angela's decision and Toto says it was Lewis'.

Not really important but to me the bigger intrigue is it adds to the whole bunch of mixed messages coming out of Merc this year, from Toto primarily. Team currently has a bit of the feel of McLaren just before Lewis left.

??

Why would a physio care about the team's performance?

He'll still need a physio whether he finishes 1st or 10th.

Really odd take.

Difficult to tell - if it is, it’s a really good one…
Not really. The shadow's wrong under the suitcase. There's a highlight on the bottom of the tan bag where there should be a shadow. Quite a few other poor bits. Plus, of you honestly think either of them would be travelling with luggage from TK Maxx?

This is one of those things that prove a lot of f1 fans are Psychopaths lol.
Lewis probably was aware she had plans to do other things but her loyalty meant she would stay in his team. He knew they were unlikely to win a title anytime soon so was ok with her doing he stuff with an open door if she wanted to come back.
This is healthy but confusing to the average Psychopath.

Again the second part of the quote is out of context too, it doesn’t include the rest where Toto says; if this is Lewis’s decision then it’s up to him but we will fully support him in it.

Full quote:

“I don't know what has been announced. Angela was part of the gang for a long time. I think in every team, whether that is his close circle, or also in the wider group, you know, this is not a static situation that you can freeze, because we all develop as people, we develop as an organization and if things don't work out anymore, then we need to be honest about it and then bring change. Angela will always be a mascot of the team. She's the only one who has a louder voice than a starting car. But, you know, if this is what he decides, we will always absolutely support him, whatever direct direction he wants to take.”

I would guess this was somehting along the lines of get me ready for the new season, she is from NZ is she not, this is their summer period, maybe she just did not fancy all this again.

He has done stuff like this before and I think just wants a reset every now and then.

He is hardly in bad nick for a bloke at his level, just fancied a change to the no doubt routine

It is obvious from the bolded part that LH brought the relationship to an end. As for the reasons why no one knows, but abruptness of it, mid season with just one race gone, leads us to speculate that it was acrimonious and the public fawning over each other is just marketing spin.

I think this sounds plausible. She's probably told him this was her last year and she'd stay to help him get the 8th title. After the first race, it's become apparent the 8th title won't be coming this season, so he's told her to get on with her life now rather than stick around until the end of the season.

Exactly and reading into quotes from the likes of Toto whose first language is not English so one can hardly read into the statements in the way people are here.

At the end of the day a person has left their job. So what?
