Some one I once knew bought one of those tvs or a real similar one. it was delivered in the morning and when his wife came home in the evening he had removed the contents of the cupboard under the stairs, cut the plaster board off of the wall and inserted it into the cavity left, the house was a two up two down with the stairs running 90degrees to the neighbours wall. I thought it was excellent, his wife didn't .. her pantry had been relocated to the dinning room table.. but wall mounted tv...

So he is paid to look stupid.
He wore all that Mr T style to have a bit of a joke because they were banning him from wearing jewellery in his piercings.

That could be a photo (and probably is) from a BT&P or similar!

I have a friend who bought a new bed and accoutrements for £24k. He said it was like me paying £700 and I said "£700 for a bed!"

we've got the 'council' thread for a bit of light-hearted fun - can we up-scale it somewhat and have the whole 'council' attitude but with the funds to flaunt their complete lack of taste?
Multiple threads already started here: https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/forum.asp?h=0&...

Those tacky threads and posts on pistonheads where the poster pretends to be so old money or wealthy that they claim to have no idea what something totally normal or mundane is like

There’s one running at the moment “just how bad is economy flights” on their last min holiday to the Seychelles”

Of course all the posters are replying “ oh I simply wouldn’t dream of going cattle class, you’ll likely be stabbed or catch scabies from the poor person next to you, first is simply the only way to go”

Or oh my electricity bill last month was only £3000, I just don’t know what people are moaning about

Or some other Home Counties investment banker golf course chat
Yes I've noticed humblebragging is massive on here.
The most hilarious (and pathetic) thread was the one where the OP needed his wife and daughter to get to somewhere in Yorkshire from London, but was unable to get the daughter insured on their Porsche. As a result, the wife was too “terrified” (more like didn’t want to be seen in something inexpensive, shock horror!) to drive the Mini (?) and such as the OP was asking for advice on what to do

He suggested

Buying a whole other car for this 1 day journey
Arranging a private driver to drive them in some kind of luxury car
Breaking up the journey in to two days (seriously?) and parking the car elsewhere
Train (first class only, you know rolleyes)

Truly cringe.

it is funny really, i remember the wealthy ones were the ones that wore old clothes, drove older cars, very humble, went to cheap shops, had no issues drinking with the normal people. Retired on 6 figs in the bank and still lived like that. Really feels like the whole system has upended and making sure you are not seen as frugal is now a bad thing, people are now just their objects.

Much like the "Are CTers thick?" thread, the cringe thread attracted exactly the people that were being poked fun at, who didn't like it up 'em.

Filling up a car with premium diesel.
Though if properly wealthy I guess you wouldn't have the diesel model in the first place, hmm

Rolls Royce Cullinan.

I've only seen 1 on the road and I couldn't help but think the woman driving it looked like a right plonker.

Not knowing premium diesel existed.

Stupidity or vulgarity? I don't know. I'm guilty of at least one of those two offences.

Thanks for that, I'd missed that one.

There's a fine line IMO. I'd love to hear of someone's ownership experience of an F50 or Carrera GT or LFA etc but then you read threads like 2manycars and it's infested with the worst sycophants, I actually had to stop reading it.

I can imagine it puts a lot of people off sharing their stories.

I am in awe of the skill and ingenuity that was involved making them in the 18th century, solving the latitude problem and that sort of thing, but I am mostly indifferent to watches as a hobby/interest. My post was intended as a light-hearted ribbing of this kind of behaviour:

Yeah that isn't a good look. I found my watch hobby grew with age and and an appreciation for the incredible movements and the craftsmanship. The use of them as a way of showing off is quite sad actually.
