My late father had a barometer, he tapped the thing regularly but I never saw it point to anything that wasn't rain biggrin
My father was also a regular barometer tapper, although in later years he got one of these, which I have since inherited, and doesn't seem to need tapping

I don't know where Dads is, probably a box in my loft as I don't think I'd have got rid of it. Might have to have a look this weekend. I've concluded weather monitoring is a sport you blokes take up somewhere around mid 40's as my other half is the same with his digital monitor and one of those crap snow globe things that supposedly tell you what it's going to do (neither of which are especially accurate either)

That barometer though is quite beautiful and I'd have something like that happily.

My grandfather had one that drew a line on a rolling piece of graph paper. It fascinated me as a child.

Its always exciting when the clock changes its prediction and it contradicts the reality outside the window.
They're for forecasting, no? The change in atmospheric pressure they measure indicates if the weather is likely to worsen, stay the same or improve. If it says 'rain' when it is clear and sunny outside the pressure is falling etc.

That's the principle I think yes. Is it accurate? Not especially in the iPhone era but it is fun.

I had one of those that disappeared during a divorce - off to a rabbit hole on ebay for another one now!

Almost. The "tapping" jumps the needle from where it was, to what it is now - so indicates either pressure rising or falling.
When combined with the pressure level in millibars it tells you whether there's a high or low pressure system, and whether it's coming or going.

965 and dropping is very different to 105 and dropping, for example.

I find myself wondering whether my EVSE (Hypervolt) could be installed in one of these. The site says nothing about which make they include.

The 'pump' is merely a stand, to which you attach the charge unit of your choice.

It is a glorified post. You can just make out the Zappi on the right hand side of the unit.

But, I think it looks great! biggrin

Sticks.

I love the EV charger/pump.

Time I had another clock I think. I missed out on a mid century kitchen clock I liked a couple of years ago which I had a space in mind for. This is on its way.

I decided to buy a new hoodie. Don't need it as I already have about 10 different ones, but when I saw it I couldn't resist.

The Pitbull takes a lot longer than you think it will it's an absolute bugger to clean the blades out properly and they don't last as long as they say before you have to replace them. So definitely frivolous because it would just become another ornament in the corner of the bathroom.

And for the love of God never ever ever try and shave your face with it all it does is pull my hairs out it does not work for shaving the face like it does the head.

I wet shave my head. Its quick, easy in the shower and does a perfect job that i probably will never beat.

Even then on a whim iv just ordered the pitbull gold pro electric head shaver for around £100.... I just wanted to see the difference while in the shower to the perfection of a razor. Suppose I can shave my face with it if I ever decide not to have a beard..

Writing with the seller of this, making a purchase in Indonesia :

The only 155mm floating disc in the web, for a Monkey-Bike project.
Have a one-piece disc but changed the caliper from floating to rigid , 1 to 2 pistons
might not need it but feels better if one component is able to float.
I do not really like the anodized bits but they just might match the candy blue of my ST175 Dax.

Just ordered a remote control Vampire. I already have one, now 6 years old & very beaten up after a few crashes. I did my jet training on the real thing over 60 years ago & wanted a nice one again.

I will probably never fly it, as I want to keep it looking nice. I have a remote control Sea Fury I've had for 5 years & never flown. Flew then a little in the navy as they were being phased out, & like it looking great to remind me of my youth.

Can we see a pic or link to it?

Seconded, I'd love to see that!

If you're feeling extra frivolous, may I recommend a flight in the real thing? I was lucky enough to be treated to it as a 30th birthday present from the family last year. Pilot/owner Mark is a super nice guy and the aircraft is mind-blowing to experience in agility and performance!
Be aware though - if, like me, you ask for the "full airshow routine" you will be quite airsick by the time you land hehe
