Really like this, much nicer than the Id4

Most important car car for Ford since the Focus?

Price will be key. Imho it looks better than a Model Y, but the price needs to be right to be competitive with it.

Looks like a predictable blend of all the other SUVs for the lumpenvolk.

Supposed to start at ~ £40k. They need to keep some clear water price-wise between this and the Mach-E.

I think it looks interesting, but I’d prefer an estate car EV, which seems to be a chronically under represented sector at the moment. Guess an SUV platform gives more potential for balancing finding a home for batteries with driver, passenger and luggage space requirements

Different windows, windscreen is further back, roofline different yet:

The proportions and glasshouse betray the VW underpinnings, even though Ford says it’s pushed back the windscreen.
Writer getting paid by the word? And chalk one up for motor noter BS bingo with underpinnings.

It looks like another bland box in a market of bland boxes.

As someone who has bought many Ford's over the years this leaves me cold and I wonder at their current direction with the cancellation of Fiesta, Focus, C-Max, S-Max, Galaxy and Mondeo.

I think you may have gotten the answer, lol.

To be fair, why not platform share with VW? It’s all pretty much the same ol stuff anyhow. Just a different screen with a different operating system. Exciting times.

Usual ev problem with the flat floor meaning knees higher than hips when sat in rear, not the most comfortable travel experience, prefer the overall look to an id4, though maybe a bit more tweaking required.

I got an email - not sure why - about this yesterday. I assumed it was for the American market.

If they're going to sell it here then hopefully it's smaller than the current US Explorer - that's pretty huge by UK standards.

Seems that Jonny Smith is the only one who has seen it in person, so far. Hate designer talk...

It's smaller yes. The guy on the Johnny Smith video said it was slightly bigger than a Focus but smaller than a Kuga. So it's a fairly compact thing, as things go.

The wheels are pretty hideous, but at least they've made a half hearted attempt to build that touchscreen in to the car rather than stick it on as an afterthought as so many manufacturers seem to

Oh, wow - that's massively smaller than past Explorer then.

I did think it had a bit of an Evoque look about it.

Not great from a usage perspective though? The bottom of the screen leaves you looking well away from the road similar to the Tesla Model S/X. It might not look great but the screen in the Model 3/Y is far safer and more useable IME.

To be fair, have these dime-a-dozen family cars had so much character in the past?
All running the most boring drivetrain of the day, just a bit different styling?

Fair point, depends what they put there I suppose. Plenty of pre touchscreen cars with heater controls and other buttons that low, but you don't always need to look at them to get the right one like you do with a touch screen.

It pivots a bit, but the majority of the screen is still rather low due to the portrait layout and will be more awkward to use once in the upright position.
