I love this era of Renault. My mother had her Megane RT Sport from new for 8 years - the longest she's kept a car. Very little issues in that time, too.

Decapitated barge with a proper engine.

The last MOT was a bit heavy with the red ink but the expensive bits seem to have been fixed. The remaining niggles appear to be all suspension related which on these, is ridiculously cheap to freshen up. Then again, What would you expect for a twenty year old car.

It's a shame the colour combination is a bit uninspiring.

If you are prepared to lose a couple of cylinders and roll the dice with the balance shaft*, then you could have one one in arguably one of the best colour schemes.

  • Not sure when they sorted the balance shaft issues. Some sources say this will be ok, being a 2006 but other sources say 2007. We'll also gloss over the little issue of £615! tax.

Well after some research - the Alfa V6 is cam chain and they can stretch if not regularly oiled - according to an Alfa specialist it's a 2K job.
Clutch and flywheel - 2K job.
Front subframes can rot out as they can sit in water held in by the undertray. Difficult to find as the Q4 subframe if different and rare.
Large road tax.

Embrace the beige!

MOT history shows distinct lack of tin worm issues. This car may have been sorted by Mercedes at some point.

I know some will recoil in horror once they see the propulsion unit but from experience, as far as black pump suckers go, this 3.2 lump is a good one.

Those wheels are usually corroded and pitted beyond recognition - the fact these look so clean, tells me you could be correct!

and from next month that goes to £695. 10% increase !!! Where previously it was just £10 or £20 up each month

Don't understand why vehicle duty is tied to RPI (well I guess I do but don't like it)

I have wanted a Cayenne Turbo for sometime.

Was the issue with the specialist that the works were not authorized but completed anyway? The parts prices, to me, don't look too bad - the brakes are certainly a lot cheaper than on my S600. The hourly rate is possibly a bit "punchy" at £110 but that may be where we are with "specialists" now.

Anyway, great advert very well written - the condition of the car looks great, if only the electrics could be sorted with the work you have already done it could make a very good car for someone for not a lot of money.
Yep. I've calmed down a bit since posting the ad (probably because I haven't been in it) and as it is, it's probably going to picked up by someone in the trade for circa £3k or less, and whilst it's tempting to get shot, I think I am going to hold out until I get it looked at by my chap for one reason, I want to know what has gone on with it and just how far this specialist has had my pants down.

As for non authorized work, yep-south of the bits about the burnt out loom etc, he did it all without any recourse to myself. We discussed putting my property back on it and then he called and I unfortunately, trusted him.

I'll get it checked at my place and work out where I stand, but I think I have the stomach (for the first time in my life) to take legal recourse.
Definitely don't just give it away for £3k or less, given the money you've already spent.
I also have a Cayenne Turbo and a lot of the stuff you say regarding running costs rings true.
One thing that causes a lot of electrical issues is water ingress into the footwells, might be worth lifting up the driver's and passenger side front carpets to check if they're wet.
If your car runs and is not shaking/misfiring then it's probably not too serious a problem smile fingers crossed

Yep. It's dry as a bone inside, always has been, unlike the 124 behind it which leaks like a sieve, has rotten wiring looms but works every time I get in it. Go figure

Thanks, it's mine unfortunately. I'm a long time lurker on this thread and that ad was literally typed the second I disembarked having collected it. In the interim I have booked it in to be checked out by my new trusted indie in case it's something that I want to continue with (I doubt it) but they aren't able to see it until 27.4.23 and so if anyone wants it before that then please, be my guest, it's blocking the view from the house. Interestingly, it's the first time I have used an ad with a deprecating approach and it hasn't half sorted the timewasters out, really sensible people have been in contact.
I’m finding the idea of this Cayenne Turbo really exciting I clearly have a mental condition of some kind.

I could park it in the garage next to my 124 cabrio purchased on a whim thanks to this thread. I probably should get rid of that before I buy a broken cayenne.

You have to cut your loss somewhere imho. The amount is not great, but then it needs to be sorted as well. Electrical faults could be a nightmare to sort out and could cost a substantial amount. Btw I like the wheels a lot and the car itself, but I have no offroad and running costs of doing 15k miles might cripple me lol. Best of luck really with it to the owner.

I fell asleep halfway through reading the ad but, for reasons I can't fathom, the murdered-out, clapped-out money bucket actually reads like a good advert and car, for £1700, which the seller will clearly take.

I have just done a 15 hour day though.

It is quite clear why it is cheap. Not that it has no MOT, but the current owner took no notice to faults as long as it drove to point B in his life. Wow.

ad says said:
MOT: 1. Misfire on Cylinder 5, haven't had it diagnosed. It was like this when I bought the car and it hasn't bothered me, it performs fine but is just a little jumpy & underpowered when going 60+mph. I did 15,000 miles last year and was using it up until MOT expiry, including 500+ mile which it sailed through. 2. Engine light on due to misfire and de-cat. 3. De-cat exhaust (friendly tester will look the other way). 4. Seatbelt & airbag light on. Unsure why. I think at some point in its distant past its had a minor bump and the sensors havent been updated.
The exact saying goes as to been run on a shoestring. Good for parts I would guess.

You say that like none of us have been there!

Makes a terrible ad, but doesn't necessarily make it a terrible car.
