Thanks, it's mine unfortunately. I'm a long time lurker on this thread and that ad was literally typed the second I disembarked having collected it. In the interim I have booked it in to be checked out by my new trusted indie in case it's something that I want to continue with (I doubt it) but they aren't able to see it until 27.4.23 and so if anyone wants it before that then please, be my guest, it's blocking the view from the house. Interestingly, it's the first time I have used an ad with a deprecating approach and it hasn't half sorted the timewasters out, really sensible people have been in contact.
Your approach is the one I used to use. Bravo.

Don't know if this can be classed as a barge, however, it is the 3.2V6 and it is VERY well priced, so may be of interest.

Decent MOT history as well and the owner, who has owned since new, appears a petrol head.

It's in Leamington.

The tax virtually writes them off.

A grand a year on tax and insurance before you've turned a wheel.

The only people who would buy it are probably oblivious pre purchase.

Few more years and it will cost more to tax than it does to own it biggrin

On the plus side

So it could save you £12.50 a day biggrin

No idea, but might be worth giving them a call at that price and asking.

As with all used cars, precautions should be taken prior to purchasing, but the price seems very low.

And all this mention of £630 tax, that is an extra £1 a day (less than) compared to a £290 a year car.

I'm biting my lip, as pre March 23rd 2006 vehicles slip to a max banding of K*.

  • See DVLA own guidance on this for you're perusal.
I've used that card for many, many years. (Audi S3, Scoob Forester, etc) to justify owning said cars. Currently own a SLK55 AMG - post 05, pre tax hammering 06 deadline.

Positives of ownership - V8, noise, fun, good looks, pre hammering tax. ULEZ compliant (for now)
Negatives of ownership - Brake cost (£300 per front disc as an example) personal image (I can live with this), potential for ruinous bills (as with any car)
Mediocre - fuel, can do 30ish on a run, mid teens on a hoon.

It was a joy to read your 'stream of consciousness; advert.
I hope it was cathartic to write it. !

Also, if anyone is interested in what my £6 k got me...check this

Pre MOT Works.
To investigate problems with the ABS warning and other faults; Trace the burnt out wiring on loom under left hand front wheel arch and make repairs with new connector bocks; investigate faults to other control units caused by the burn out, make repairs to these control units and instrument cluster as necessary; re-fit all parts removed for this purpose and submit for an MOT.
I understand that has spoken with you about this work and informed you that the cost of these works to get the car to the MOT is £3,000 plus Vat.
2. Post MOT Works.
The car was then submitted for an MOT on 7 November 2011 and it failed for a number of reasons;
- Parking brake efficiency below requirements.
- Direction indicator not working nearside front
- Suspension arm ball joint excessively worn Offside front upper
- Suspension arm pin or bush excessively worn Nearside Front Lower
- Windscreen washer provides insufficient washer liquid
The car was then put up on a lift to assess these faults during which the following works were identified;
- Strip and fit new front brake discs, discs and sensors – 2 hours
- Strip and fit new rear discs , pads and sensors, strip and fit parking brake shoe set – 3 hours
- Strip and fit R/H front upper wishbone – 5 hours
- Strip and fit L/H Front lower wishbone rear bush – 2.5 hours
- Strip and Fit new washer nozzle - 0.25 hours
- Strip and fit R/H Indicator bulb – 0.25 hours
- Strip and fit new battery - 0.5 hours
I understand that these works were advised and approved by you and they have been carried out, a total of 13.5 hours at £110 plus Vat totalling £1,485 plus Vat of £297 = £1,782.00.
I also understand that you also asked for a full service with spark plugs at £595 plus Vat and change of brake fluid at 1 hour at £110 plus Vat.
The cost of the parts etc. necessary to undertake this work was as follows;
2 front discs at £156.28 each less 25% discount - £234.42
1 set of front pads at £283.94 less 25% discount - £212.95
2 sets of front pads sensors at £23.89 less 25% discount - £35.83
2 rear discs at £119.50 less 25% discount - £179.25
1 set of rear pads at £167.44 less 25% discount - £125.73
2 sets of rear pad sensors at £23.89 less 25% discount - £35.83
1 set of rear pads fitting kit at £39.39 less 25% discount - £29.54
1 set Handbrake shoes at £152.66 less 50% discount - £76.33
1 wishbone at £283.73 less 25% discount £212.79
1 Bosh - £42.93
1 nozzle (price to be advised)
Windscreen cover plenum (to be advised)
1 Varta 110V battery - £195
1 litre brake fluid - £18
The total cos of these parts is £1,398.60 plus Vat.

Yikes
Seems to be reasonable cost for used vehicle if it was run into the ground then someone has to pay for the maintenance at the end of the day. Although, the labor cost seems to be a bit rich imho. I was complaining to my mechanic that he took 4 hours to change a ball joint and it was £40 an hour when he reduced his fee without argument. I do most of the work myself since I have an engineers degree in electronics lol so I can guess how much time it takes for certain jobs as a diy.

It could be just £1 extra, but if it is £120 then £630 becomes a substantial sum. It is such a beautiful design of the 159 wagon it might be worth it for someone.

Double check the tax rate with the Gov.uk website. Autotrader isn't always correct - I just bought an Audi B7 2.0T Quattro as a barge for when Lady GPM passes her test in the very near future and I discounted the car based on Autotrader saying it was £630 in tax. I double checked later and it was in fact only £360 which was more acceptable.

I have wanted a Cayenne Turbo for sometime.

Was the issue with the specialist that the works were not authorized but completed anyway? The parts prices, to me, don't look too bad - the brakes are certainly a lot cheaper than on my S600. The hourly rate is possibly a bit "punchy" at £110 but that may be where we are with "specialists" now.

Anyway, great advert very well written - the condition of the car looks great, if only the electrics could be sorted with the work you have already done it could make a very good car for someone for not a lot of money.
Yep. I've calmed down a bit since posting the ad (probably because I haven't been in it) and as it is, it's probably going to picked up by someone in the trade for circa £3k or less, and whilst it's tempting to get shot, I think I am going to hold out until I get it looked at by my chap for one reason, I want to know what has gone on with it and just how far this specialist has had my pants down.

As for non authorized work, yep-south of the bits about the burnt out loom etc, he did it all without any recourse to myself. We discussed putting my property back on it and then he called and I unfortunately, trusted him.

I'll get it checked at my place and work out where I stand, but I think I have the stomach (for the first time in my life) to take legal recourse.

Yep, agreed but the car was actually functioning normally when I left it with him. It was "all together" and the only bong I kept getting was some nonsense about the headlight level-now, £6k down the road I have the dash looking like Piccadilly Circus.

On more barge related talk, my actual penultimate journey in this thing was from London to Bristol to view a beautiful R129 500 SL in an unusual colour, it's in my garage as we speak and has been nothing but a pleasure since the day I got it.
