Hi,

New car to me, looking forward to getting to know the F12. Hopefully it is an enjoyable journey, the car was bought with the aim of long term ownership. I have always loved the styling and for me I think it will age well.

Loving it so far.

New tyres all round, Michelin Pilot Sport 4S. 265 up front and 315 K1 at the rear. The tyre change made a difference to the feel, the existing were perished and cracking in the centre. Have had the alignment done and this has moved it on again.

In terms of the drive, quite surprised by the level of engine braking but have been told this is a characteristic. It is fine but just different to what I am used to.

The car goes into Ferrari Edinburgh for a service on Monday next week and I am considering the power 15 warranty option. Not loving the prices but I suppose I shouldn't complain, V12's I expect are expensive if they go wrong.

Wow, that looks lovely. The colour nicely highlights the shape too.

My instinct would be that a large high-compression naturally aspirated engine would naturally have a lot of engine braking, and that you'd notice it more in an FR car (since it's acting on the rear wheels which are unweighted under deceleration). So that sounds like what I'd intuitively expect, unless the powertrain was deliberately programmed to reduce the effect by cracking open the throttle or upshifting / coasting (sometimes called 'Drag Torque Control').

I agree I think the F12 will age well, hope you have many happy miles with it!

That’s a beauty you have there.

It’s been suggested on FChat that the perceived engine braking is, in fact, brake pre-loading. The way to test this out is to coast down in gear and in neutral and see if you notice any difference.

As for the warranty, don’t bother. Very little goes wrong with the F12 and the things which do (leaky gaskets and seals) aren’t covered by the warranty. The only thing which the warranty is good for is a DCT sensor failure and that can be fixed for c.£7k which is less than 2 years’ warranty. So the question you have to ask yourself is ‘do you feel lucky?’

Thanks for the comments on the engine braking and the warranty. I have found that putting on cruise control even for around 30mph when doing 70mph makes a big difference. Assume this is the throttle being held partly open, easy way to cheat the system. Not overly bothered by it when driving on my own or when pressing on but cruising with a passenger (wife) it avoids any moans or comments about learning how to drive.

Sorry, it was just a picture of the old tyres. They looked ok in terms of tread depth, they were dated 2015. Rubber was starting to perish and split. I hadn't noticed this until they came off. Equally I didn't examine them closely as I tend to always put on new tyres on my cars and with the age of them they were coming off.

Lovely color, especially the interior. The problem with looking at other Ferraris is it makes me want to change the colors of mine all the time.

Bit of a departure from the 911.

Geometry setting before and after. Much improved on where it was from a limited drive. Will be good to get out for a decent run.

I think I may have driven that RS, does it have floor jacks built in?

No, must be another car. I have owned the car since 2015.

Wonderful. I can see how you could keep that for a very long time.
