Ferrari looked relatively close in qualifying but miles off in race trim. If Leclerc could get pole in Monaco and 1 or 2 other circuits where overtaking is difficult and/or red bull have some reliability issues there's a chance they could pinch a race or 2.

I'll predict 18 wins for Max, 4 for Perez and 1 for Leclerc.

It wouldnt be so bad if the RB drivers were more evenly matched, similar to 1988 and 2014-16. I won't be watching.

The problem is that there’s a perception that the team currently dominating the sport cheated and yet are still miles ahead of the competition. Both AM and RBR breached the cost cap and are now smashing it. This wouldn’t happen in any other sport - sanctions should be punitive.
Spot on. This is what has ruined F1 for me. Not just now but for decades (thinking of Schumacher's deliberate crashes, Benetton, Ferrari cheating etc), no one ever gets a punishment that changes the previous seasons outcome or one that will affect the future. Hence RBR still being world champs the last two years and ahead of the field this year - DESPITE being guilty of cheating.

Doesn't happen in any other sport, for some reason FIA go very soft on cheaters, that for me massively detracts from the sport. I'm hanging on in there having been a fan for 40 years but on the cusp of giving up.

Even though McLaren are my team and they look woeful so far, I will keep watching as I am not a massive fanny.

The ridiculous hero worship that causes people to say they dont like it anymore. All that desperation for lewis to win his 8th title or they will descend into the pits of despair.
Its like some guy with 7 billion dorras missing out on getting 1 more billion and people cant get over it on his behalf.
IDGAF if Hamilton never wins another race.

I just want close racing and a fight for the win.
You're watching the wrong series then.

F1 has never consistently been like that

2021 was like that.

2018 was like that.

2012 was like that

2010 was like that

2007 & 2008 was like that.

Some races will be dominant, some races will be boring. That's expected.

But 1988/1992/2002/2004/2011/2013-style years aren't fun.

I don’t think they will win all 24 races IMO.
That's a pretty safe bet as I believe there are only 23 races this season as China was cancelled.

Not at all I am no fanboy just what to see some close racing at front as well as the middle order, after all it is the pinnacle of Motorsport.

On another note a friend of mine informed me after discovering the increase of his annual visit to Silverstone for this years race is out of the question. Camping and four day ticket is astronomical even from last years price.

2021 set a massive high bar to follow and possibly an outlier. How often were Lewis and Max battling for the lead and win? Also, normally, one half of the season would favour one team and the second half would favour the other.

After yesterday’s race and then comments coming out of the Mercedes camp that Verstappen should win all 24 races, then it looks like the only real racing will be middle order battles. I have cancelled my subscription anyone else
I get the sentiment, but that's a bit of a weird thing to do isn't it? It's like watching the first match of the Premier League season and seeing (plucks ludicrously unrealistic result out) Liverpool beat Man U 7-0 and then declaring you've cancelled your subscription as Liverpool will clearly win the title.
Sorry but I don't think the Football comparison is a particularly good one here (although I did laugh at the 7-0....) as it's a completely different set of variables, you've got tackling, formations, substitutions, injuries, set pieces, VAR, greater numbers of players on one side, differing schedules, a league, some cups, Europe, International duty, it's barely a footballer and tech, like it is a driver and car....you could probably reel off 50 of these.

It's nothing like Formula 1. Just a crap analogy, sorry

2021 - When Red Bull were cheating
2018 - When Ferrari were cheating
2007 - When McLaren were stealing Ferrari data

I was done after 2021. I watched a few highlights in the first half of 22, but the loves truly lost.

Not a Hamilton fan. laugh

They broke the budget cap. We haven't seen the 2022 returns yet.

It was only last year (or perhaps the season before, certainly no more than three years ago) that Michael Schumacher was lapping the entire field up to the remaining podium places. Complaining about a 30-40 second victory seems very Generation Z.

If Max is going to make history and win every race in a season then I'd like to witness it.

thumbup Ditto.
Lando’s Ginetta Junior & F4 days seem such a long time ago now.
Going to enjoy & see how the new blood progresses over the years.
But IF Hamilton does win his eighth title... we will still get the ’ninth really’ brigade bleating on. rolleyes

The real racing has always been mid pack, I thought watching Alonso come through and give both Mercs and a Ferrari a good hiding was brilliant to be honest, couldn't have given a toss that Max and Sergio were 30 seconds ahead. Good to see someone different starting to emerge.

I did see Toto Wolff stop and interview with Ted Kravitz to go and congratulate Lawerence Stroll, the two embraced quite emphatically especially considering Mercedes had just had their arses handed to them by a customer team, it did make me wonder if Toto has one eye on the exit door at Mercedes and will wind up at Aston in the not too distant future. Lawerence only seems interested in hiring the best and Toto is surely on his wish list.
