obviously everyone is too polite to ask, but with this hot weather how come we need to piss less ?
All the water that would usually form urine in cooler conditions has been removed from the body in the form of sweat instead.

What prevents an engine running backwards?

Not as in reverse, I mean as in the crankshaft moving clockwise when it should go anti-clockwise or vice versa.

Is is just the way it is spun on start-up ?

Can a normal engine be run the wrong way?
It just wouldn’t run because the timing would be out.

However, years ago a truck engine manufacturer ( could be Gardener ) made a two stroke diesel for lorries that could run backwards, this usually ended with them over revving to destruction.

But a four stroke engine, no.
Gardner didn't make a two stroke however the old 6lx and lxb could quite easily run in reverse.
They were v slow revving and at the point of stall they would occasionally run backwards.

Two strokes would be either the Foden FD or the Rootes TS3 or the Detroit.

This.

Ideally we'd be drinking enough water (ok, coffee) that even with all the extra sweating we're still peeing plenty. Otherwise we cause ourselves a mischief.

You may also notice your urine is yellower than usual, due to there being less water in it

I'm quite happy with the situation, less peeing is my goal, with a ballooned prostate my bladder capacity is
equal to a small teacup, any reduction in urine production is welcome.

Don't know if it has been asked before on here, but why do we have one of some organs, but two of others. One heart I can understand as having two in parallel would be a very odd arrangement, same with parts of the digestive system, they all formed around a central tube that goes from our mouths to our anus. But why do we have two kidneys and two lungs? Both of these paired organs work independently of the other one and you can get one removed or have it fail in some way and survive to some degree with just one. Why didn't we evolve to have one huge lung or one big kidney?

This reminds me of the old Jewish joke about a father who was dismayed to learn that his son at medical school had opted to become a proctologist. "Optician or audiologist I can understand," he complained, "but everybody's only got one a**ehole!"

Or a spare liver spleen and pancreas?

Mind you the heart is in two sections, as is the brain.

What finishing product do manufacturers put on cotton shirts to make them feel soft when new? After a few washes the wet cotton sounds like a flapping sail on a boat and I know when dry it's going to turn to cardboard with lots of creases. Poly/Cotton mixes are far superior for lazy sods like me with no irons but I prefer the 100% cotton experience.
Are you in a hard water area?
No - ultra soft south west Gtr Mcr. No furred kettles or film on my tea here.

Or just one testicle?

That is true, the brain has symmetry, but operates as one and unless you go into politics, you can't just take half of it out.

The heart does have two sections, but one part just sends blood round the lungs and the rest round the body. I find it more peculiar how we have two kidneys that feed just one bladder, although having two would be peculiar, as would having two holes to pee out of.

Be wary though - too little throughput can lead to kidney stones wink

Just read a book about all that stuff. 'The Body- (an inhabitants guide'.) It's by Bill Bryson and is a very entertaining and informative read. He makes all the various parts of the body easy to understand and is brilliant at explaining how we all work. Recommended.read

Be fair. If your alternative was sitting at home with Cheatin’ Wayne you’d be on holiday too.

It is not compulsory to comment. You can just read and enjoy a post without trying to 'improve' it.

there's also a very good reason why beer is sold in bottles or metal cans but not plastic containers, the beer has very small molcules, much smaller than the plastic molecues, so the beer seeps through the holes, hope thats not too technikal
