So after nearly 3 years riding and 3 years owning my 790 Duke I want to get something else.

I now live out in the quite a rural area and have some outstanding riding roads for fun.

If I take the bike to work, I do a lot in the warmer weather, I go the long way to the office it’s much the same, nice roads, not to much traffic and a nice way to start the day. However at the end of the day if I just want to get home it’s A1 M25 M11 to Stansted and then 15 miles of back roads. The 790 is just not cut out for the motorway it’s not so much the lack of wind protection but it just doesn’t have enough grunt to sit comfortably in fast moving traffic.

I’m a bit stuck as to what to get next, SDR 3, Tuono, seem to be the only thing that really have caught my eye, I love the way the SDR looks, and the latest Tuono is a good looking bike also.

I’m no riding god, I’m never going to exploit the best out of the bikes but I also want to move up a level in terms of performance.

So what else should I be considering ?

I’d question your assertion that a 100bhp bike can’t cut it on the m-way. 75bhp is enough to gap most things and sit very happily at 85mph.

That aside buy what you most want, that’s what it all boils down to.

As a new sdr 3 owner I would say it’s not a good m-way bike. There are some good deals on the ‘touring’ Tuono at the moment.

Sounds like you want a bit of bling but if not a gsx s1000gt is a great all rounder. If I wasn’t having a midlife crisis I’d have got one instead of the super duke.

Or just the ‘normal’ GSXS1000. They are quite nice.

I couldn’t face opening the garage and seeing the front of that GSXS looking at me.

Simple solution….ride in and you’re parked nose first.

Neither the SDR nor the Tuono have great wind protection if that's what you want.

Similar power to the Duke but should be ok to keep up with fast moving traffic! I'd suggest the MT09 or most definitely the new Street triple 765R.

You need at least 180hp to sit comfortably / safely on the motorway. At least this is what the Mrs is told when I'm shopping for a new bike hehe

Is the correct answer.

15 mins on a 790 was enough to conclude it's a mentalist with power everywhere. Perhaps not the most relaxing motorway tool but surely keeping up with traffic is well within its capabilities?

I guess if you want fast roll-on overtakes in 6th (surely we're talking 100mph+ at this point?), more power would be nice. Personally I really like the looks of the GSX1000GT and the engine is really flexible, you can ride the torque or rev it out to 12k depending on mood. Also it'll be super comfy on the motorway.

If you're looking for huge grunt (as opposed to using the gearbox) and want better Mway manners then surely the SD GT is the answer - if you can tolerate it's looks

Ignoring the fact the 790 obviously has enough power for motorway travel, I'll assume wind protection is more important to the OP who wants to also feel more noticeable and easily accessible punch.

Superduke GT would be my go to if you're to stick with a Twin. Tuono V4 great bike too albeit less of a screen.

If you're not afraid to rev a bike a bit, inline 4's such as a GSX1000F, Z1000SX or K13000 will fulfill the requirements also.

Probably a better way to have put it, something that requires a less effort on the Mway.
