There's also the Readers' Car thread by the chap who won "Tiger Wood's Suburban" from Paddy Power, which had been mounted on a billboard outside a golf event.
Hahaha, oh yes, definitely check that one out!

Bought an entry to BOTB once for a bit of a laugh!

And amazingly enough I didn't win. biglaugh

I had to buy the entry before I found out it was basically a "Spot the Ball" competition. rolleyes

I may be cynical, but I can't help thinking that by the time all the entry fees have been collected the "prize" has already been funded!

IMO these sort of things seem like a scam - just save the entry fees until you can buy what you want.
Yeah, that’s right just save up your 20 quids until you can buy a £100k car.
Also the lottery, don’t know why people play. Why don’t they save up their £2 until they have £4million instead?

That sounds like a Viz Top Tip and definitely needs sharing with a wider audience. It's good to know in this current national crisis people like you are still prepared to share their wisdom for the greater good. You're a credit to our nation and Pistonheads.

I do enjoy dream car giveaways and have entered probably about 20 (but never won) as they do a lot of interesting JDM stuff. I prefer the high ticket price lower with a low number of entries events which have seemed to have stopped sadly since the lockdown as I guess its dried up their supply somewhat.

I’ve unfollowed them for that reason and also because I was spending way too much on it. Then again, sometimes the tickets are cheap enough that you can buy say 10 and it makes the odds similar as to how they were before.

The Teg I won was £9.50 a ticket, 1300 tickets. I had 2 so a 1 in 650 chance for £19. I first found out about them when they bought my Evo 6 - that was £20 a ticket, 900 tickets. I had 6 on that laugh ... didn’t win it back though!

Of course they’re run for profit, but when all is said & done you could win a car for not much money, someone won a Ferrari 458 & £5k through DCG for £5.99, how long would it take to save for one of those at £5.99 if you entered one comp a week or put another way, dont play the lotto, save your £2 a month until you’re a millionaire

With the lottery ticket you buy the foundations on which you can build your day dream. Its highly unlikely you will build it but you can enjoy the dream of designing it.

To quote from Camolot...you have to be in it to win it

Never bought a ticket myself however a mate of mine sold a car which has ended up in the hands of one of these type businesses, can't remember which one but it is not BOTB, they are the only one I really know.

Anyway said car was used as a track car by my mate at various tracks including Oulton, Croft and Cadwell, where one memorable day at Cadwell the engine caught fire and was recovered off track, the engine was rebuilt and it did a couple more track days but it never ran properly, would throw EML lights and lose power for no apparent reason.

My mate cut his losses and put it on eBay and one of the companies purchased it for a raffle, I don't know if it's gone through or not yet, car is a blue Mini Cooper S.

Whoever wins it is likely to be disappointed with what they get.

I used to do BOTB but realised that the chances of winning were minuscule compared to the lottery based competitions.
3rd time of trying on dream car giveaways I won a Mini GP. Odds are stated so you know how many tickets are being sold to help you make a decision of whether to take a punt or not. Some are low odds like 1 in 700, some much higher like 1 in 9000. They vary the ticket costs and value of vehicles so usually a good mix of tickets available.
Far better odds than the lottery but of course your not winning millions but I was happy to win a mini for a few quid.

As others have mentioned, Dream Car Giveaways seem to be the most reliable/trustworthy... Me and my Dad have a couple of goes per month, I limit myself to £25 a month hehe

I was one number off winning a manual R8 V10 on my first attempt, since then I've probably entered 15+ other competitions and haven't come close!

Think I've been one number off on three occassions now, I know it's random so one number away is as close as being 1000 numbers away ultimately, still stings seeing your name there though.

Yeah exactly, when they're scrolling up/down the multi-page spreadsheet and your name is right there, grim!

There's a guy on Instagram that i follow who won a Cupra Ateca with BOTB. He might have also won some additional money with it too, but not 100% on that.

I played it a few times for free, as they did so many plays when you sign up. Not bothered since and didn't win anyway. I'm not totally against it though. It's a relatively small outlay to win something fairly expensive and that you actually want. Much better odds than the lottery too, but it's just not my sort of thing.

There's a few good sites , but I have to say I spent far too much on them before I called it a day. I probably spent more in 3 months effectively gambling than I had in 3-4 years previous.

I made an odds calculator to compare the sites, as some have low ticket price but lots of tickets, some have less tickets but a more expensive ticket cost.

To compare them you need to compare 2 things, firstly how many £ does it cost you to achieve 1/1000 odds.

I.e. 1000 tickets £10 a ticket , 1/1000 costs you £10
I.e. 500 tickets £25 a ticket , 1/1000 costs you £12.50

Second thing to compare is what the reward is per £ invested, I deduct 30 percent on the total ticket revenue to get an idea.

This is purely to compare two sites that might have similar cars. I told myself if both were 'green' in my chart below i'd buy some tickets. But it quickly turned into buying tickets for nearly everything.

I would note that the odds are much worse since lockdown on dreamcar. They are doing lower ticket price and larger ticket numbers, it seems to sell them out way quicker and it's no where near as good.

The thing that stopped me buying them is one bloke who won TWO BMW M4s and £3k cash within a month.

The people winning are on the whole the ones spending an absolute fortune on every draw. You get the list of entrants and see people with 100s worth of tickets. I know it doesn't make it any easier to win or harder, but I'd prefer it if it was limited to 1 per person so it feels more social/ everyone's in with a chance.

Problem with Dream Car Giveaways is they keep turning up awesome cars !!

Easy to keep finding M2/M3/M4/M5's but they find some really cool old stuff to, like Pug GTI's, RS2000/Mexico's,etc,etc,
