how long until this thread disintegrates into topics such as clothes, tax, music etc. Cant someone rename the thread title Lewis Hamilton On Track...so we can keep it on the topic of driving and keep trolls away?

This thread is just a larger version of every Grand Prix thread. When the race starts people arrive to talk about how he has driven, then in the absence of track action (and the surplus of media posts not least from LH) the topic drifts.

For all the hate, 10,000 posts kinda goes to show that in Hamilton we have an actual character in F1. No other driver comes close.

Do we think if there had been Pistonheads in the 1950's people would have been there moaning about Fangio's latest jacket?

no, theyd be moaning that:

Fangio was 'lucky' to always be in the best cars

Switched teams to always be in the best cars

Had team orders so he took over his teammates car when his broke down

Had mediocre teammates that made him look good

Didn't deserve his 5 world championships

He had a b4stard child and didn't do the right thing by marrying his woman

….not much different to these days really.

In defence of Button from memory he only had a car that could win the championship once and he took it. Imagine if the regs were frozen at the start of that season we could be looking at 7 time champion JB and Lewis on 1 that he only just scrapped by.

He also beat Lewis in equal machinery but neither of them took the championship then and out scored him for their 3 seasons together (yes I know championship wise Lewis beat him 2-1) but still.

He won loads on his way up to F1 and won the Japanese GT championship after he retired from F1 and just seems to be having fun doing all sorts of racing these days.

It would be more interesting if it was.

Apparently not. If a Button thread was more interesting, there would be one, with thousands of posts.

Try again.

Just to reassure you all, Button is doing fine and seems to be enjoying his life. They recently celebrated Hendrix's first birthday.

The ones with proper wealth tend to spend money building new wings at their old university and establishing mentoring programmes, doing something really positive for their old town.
Just so you can keep up to date here is a list of the charities and causes Hamilton supports:

Charities
Education Africa
Great Ormond Street Hospital
Harlem Children's Zone
Save the Children
The Honeypot Children's Charity
UNICEF

Causes
Abuse, AIDS & HIV, At-Risk/Disadvantaged Youths, Children, Disaster Relief, Education, Health, Human Rights, Poverty, Slavery & Human Trafficking

Many times after a race, instead of leaving the country immediately, he will stay and visit children in poor villages (India) and slums on behalf of UNICEF.

Just to clarify the Button comment was in response to someone commenting about 5 posts before the old thread was locked, assumed people would have gone from one to the other

The day he passes Schumacher records is going to be a great day. Beyond then I wonder if his interest may start to drift towards other things.

I personally lost a huge amount of respect for LH after he took a photographer with him to the BLM riots in London.
