Been a ref against us twice and sent a player off both times.
But was he wrong? Tonight's decision looked about right to me.
So you thought the first card for time wasting was fair?
He didn’t give Italy a foul in the last second then so probably best to put the tin foil back in the kitchen cupboard

fk me.

That doesn't feel like a victory tbh.

Great first half though.

Good result that, not many had this one down before kick off as an England win.
Yep, excellent result - Italy by far better secondhalf.

That’s some record you guys have, 18 wins out of the last 19 European qualifiers.

To win against that bunch of cheating fkers is a result tbh. Shaw/Maguire were poor.

When Rice got his card there was an Italian about five yards from the ball. We were entitled to wait as long as we wanted until he got back to the required ten yards. Shaw opted to run past the ball that had been in play to pick up a dry ball that was further off, understandable when going for one of his long throw ins. Poor decisions both of them.

1st win in Italy since 1961, really ?
If I heard right then fair play, esp with 10 men

For some reason I felt more proud of the 97 Ince headband 0-0 draw in Rome.

Hope Bellingham is fit for the Ukraine game. He's the heartbeat of this side.

Strange one from the ref, a few very iffy moments. Like when he and the linesman towards the end of the second half looked at each other after a corner hit someone on the front post and went out a good few seconds with no decision, neither had clearly seen it hit a player clearly, so they just gave a corner.

Maguire looked more comfortable when we were getting bombed, but he always looked like he was going to mess up when we were playing expansive. You just knew his distribution was going to cost. Rice absolutely monstered that game was easily the best player, we get the usual Bellingham plaudits during his moments but every ball into the front players Rice was all over it, glad Joe Cole called it because the fan boy England presenters always slobber over the star players.

The amazing thing about Rice is that he is still steadily improving.

Think tonight was our first competitive victory in Italy.

The team was Bobby Charlton, Jimmy Armfield, Bryan Douglas, Jimmy Greaves, Gerry Hitchens, Bobby Robson, Ron Flowers, Mike McNeil, Peter Swan, Ron Springett, Johnny Haynes.

And Twigthewonderkid apparently talent spotted them all as under fives around 1942.

He wandered over to take the throw in incredibly slowly, picked up the ball, wandered back to the touchline slowly, started edging his way up the line, stopped, edged up a little more..... how much time does he need to take a throw in? And given Rice and Walker had already been booked for timewasting, he should have realised that the ref was clamping down on it and got a move on. Only one person to blame for Shaw's red card and it wasn't the official.

C4 and BBC both had Walker already with a yellow.
That's because they flashed up that Walker had a yellow already on screen, meaning that the analyst at the game marked it for the wrong player. That then goes around the world's stat websites and almost everyone gets it wrong until it's corrected.

Well I'm here for a win and Kane becoming the all time top scorer! It might not have felt great but the result stands. Also, he's not a cheat whatever greygoose says!

I think we got away with one tonight, although I'm delighted with the result of course.
What annoys me is why Southgate picks players who aren't playing for their club sides - Maguire and Phillips especially. The former did his usual "give the ball away then charge after it, ending up out of position" act, which cost us a goal, and the latter was woefully off the pace IMO.

Also, taxi for Maldini?
