Just seen this on the old faceballs.

"Who do people who go ring use for road insurance?
I am fully aware that general insurers won’t cover you on tf days but after a phone call to my insurance provider Reis, they have told me that if I go to the ring my insurance is cancelled. Not just invalid while you’re in the track they literally cancel my policy if they find out. Seems a bit harsh for a “motorsport insurance provider”
My question is what company’s wont get stroppy if you do a lap on your summer road trip?"

Thats bad imo

so if you even drive a lap which they wouldn't cover anyway they'd invalidate your policy...completely absurd, beyond that how would they even know where you had been?

I can’t believe it but will be 11 years since I last went, planning a trip with my youngest petrolhead mad son, at 13yo he will be too young to attend a trackday so have to opt for TF. I’ve done around 500 laps so hopefully the grey matter will remind me which way to go biggrin the insurance worries the hell out of me these days in my younger years I didn’t give two hoots!

It’s a long trip for us (live in the Lakes) so thinking ferry to Hull then two full days at The Ring, maximum 12 laps. What else is worth doing?
I’ll take him karting, but of spectating, walk around some of the track, anything else.

TIA
Just seen this. Phantasialand near cologne is a great theme park and has 2-3 of the greatest rollercoasters in the world I’d say. Cheap day out and generally not long wait times.

I’m aiming to go over from Dublin in early June. I’ll be going on my own. I’ve done some track days here in Mondello but I’ve never been to the ring. The car will be pretty sorted to enjoy the track. I plan on spending 2 days there.
Anyone got any recommendations on where to stay I’ve done a lot of reading online one the various hotels but if someone has first hand experience I’d appreciate a little insight.

If you’re on your own stay in Adenauer , Blau ecke is the preferred hotel .
At least down there there’s plenty to look at and as you’re Irish I’m sure you’ll mix easily .

Even the bigger, chain hotels at the circuit are not completely soulless. Since they are so large and close to the circuit, they cannot help but be the base for race teams and so the bars and other areas do have a motorsport theme to them.

I've certainly not heard of places to actively avoid.

Thanks for the heads up lads. Looking like the first week in June for me. I’ll be the one taking it handy for a few laps in a silver Punto before I go after Bellof’s record. Maybe

Enjoy! Just don't treat TF like a track day - more like a fast, one-way B-road drive - and you will be fine. If you have even the least little bit of petrol in your veins, he whole place is indescribably cool.

Good way of looking at it. I fully expected to have my right indicator on for most of the lap 🤣🤣.

Yes, it is a very strange experience. You can't really equate it to anything else.

Lots of the circuit is 'blind' and depending on how busy it is, there's potential for a huge disparity of pace between vehicles.

Driving in TF can be an amazing buzz but just follow the many good pieces of info from others. Be aware that TF can be extremely busy. Lots of very fast drivers in a vast variety of vehicles. So keep a very watchful eye on your mirrors, because in a rhd car visibility where you need it is not as clear as compared to a lhd car.
If cars or bikes are catching you up and surprising you then you are driving too fast to be able to access your position in relation to the other track users. Do not get sucked into going faster than your experience of the track should be, as you could be following someone with a far better car setup and experience of the track. Or indeed be following someone on their first lap, who could crash and you don’t want to join them.
Do not showboat where there are large gatherings of spectators.
Do not time your laps. Technically it’s illegal, as it contravenes the German road traffic laws that apply during tourist driving.
Stay off the kerbs and grass, as it’s not needed especially on your first laps and if you hit the wrong herbs they can easily assist you into the barriers.
Don’t be a Dick in the carpark and locality, people live here and have seen it all before and it impresses no-one.
Make sure you have funds available to bail you out if something goes very wrong. Which brings me to the most important one that many do not do. Read your insurance documents very carefully and understand all the small print and ramifications of driving unaware.
Lastly, enjoy your trip.

I went about 15 years ago on an R1 and loved the experience, vowed there and then i would return one day in a car. That one day is to be in the first week of May this year! Can't wait! I,m going with my son and daughter who are both petrolheads. He's taking his car and she wants to but she's only been driving 18 months so i'm not sure that's a good idea. airbnb and the ferrys are booked.

Check the opening times for the dates that you want to go... there's nothing thats gonna piss on your chips more than if you go and its closed

I'll be over there for a week in late April and TF is open in the evening for 3 of the days that I'm there. It'll be my third visit over there.

Like Nurburgsingh says - check circuit is open.

I know it’s not on at least one day that week because I’m booked on to a private track day then.
