I was speaking to a guy at the weekend who had one on order. They'd been after a base 718 for a long time and this was the only way they could get one as Porsche had been doing what they usuallly do and switch production to more in demand or profitable models.

He wasn't specifically after the Style Edition...

I did look at the Style edition, but in the end bought a lightly used 718 Boxster off the lot as I didn't want to wait. Style edition actually looks great value if you have patience to wait for it to be built and seems to include a lot of options that really should've been standard on the base version.

Thankfully the name isn’t on the badge at the rear. I think they offer some good value and spec but the temptation to add costly driver options would soon drive the price up. I might be tempted to replace my 718 T.

I tried to order a 718 and was told they would only accept orders for a Style Edition. Basically £5k for graphics, paint and wheels. No thanks.

There’s a bit more to it than that and includes items that many would option. 2 zone aircon, reverse camera, leather interior & contrast stitch, heated steering wheel….

Would be cheaper to buy a T and add the colour rather than the other way around. I'm trying to buy some style wheels at the moment for my T, I really like the style and they are normal sizes compared to the actual GT wheels.

T's are currently classed as special order. Style editions are the only cayman that can be ordered with a supposed 3-4 month wait.

As the Style Edition is 2.0 only, does that mean the 2.5S is effectively discontinued?

It was always in a no-mans land anyway when the 4.0 GTS came out.

Which dealer is saying that? Mine is quoting December and says car may never even arrive because of switch to electric.

What's the point in bringing a model out no one can order??

718 ICE will be around for a couple more years yet according to recent statement by the deputy chairman Lutz Meschke. They will offer the ICE and EV cars simultaneously ("mid decade") for an unspecified time before going full EV only.

I have spoken to two OPCs and both are adamant that ICE production will end this year, that no standard 718s are available and that orders will only be taken for Style, which may or may not arrive at the end of this year.

Maybe ICE cars will only be available for RoW not UK or even EU?

The EU date is 2035 but not yet finalised.

Yes, but the Porsche strategy may be different to EU law.

Isn't the EU considering carbon neutral fuels such as Porsche is investing in?
