Funny how all those with 'inside knowledge' have disappeared from these pages now there's something concrete to comment on.
Insider knowledge?….don’t know if I’d call it that but I was at Dunsfold picking up a car he was supposed to be driving the day after the crash. A colleague of mine was there on the day, not long after the incident and saw lumps of mud and grass being scooped out off the cockpit of a Morgan. Seems he’s now hit a psychological wall…I suppose it’s not surprising especially as he’s got a wife and 4 kids to think about! I wish him a fast recovery and hopefully we’ll see him back on TG in the near future.I don't see why they need to do really dangerous stunts myself. I'd much rather really good driving in beautiful places than one of them racing down a hill on something inappropriate.
I wish him well nonetheless.

the thing is that a lot of sportsmen (and non-sporty types too) do seem to have an urge to 'push the envelope' - danger is fun (until it isn't)I don't see why they need to do really dangerous stunts myself. I happened to be watching a bit of gogglebox last night and they showed the bit of TG or GT with them doing a run down a long tunnel that ended in a wall. JM got it seriously wrong and hit the wall sideways at some speed.
I would like to have sat in on the risk assessment meeting that gave that the nod. I bet it wasn't a long meeting.
it was The Grand Tour. Wrong thread I would like to have sat in on the risk assessment meeting that gave that the nod. I bet it wasn't a long meeting.
“The BBC says it has scrapped the latest series of Top Gear after presenter Andrew "Freddie" Flintoff was hurt in an accident while filming.”

TBH I think Top Gear in its current form had probably run its course anyway. Hope Freddie makes a good recovery all the same.

I agree they’ve run out of ideas, but it’s still hugely popular and profit worldwide. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-6505...

However, the BBC isn’t a business so profit is less of an issue.
I think the bigger issue, is that TG has become an embarrassment to the BBC, who I think have been desperately looking for an excuse to cancel it for years now.
Lads racing about burning petrol is just not on message, but I expect Freddie will be gutted if TG ends due to his accident.
I hope he is ok and is back behind the wheel already.

Indeed, Top Gear died when CH&M stopped doing it, it's never really been very good since IMHOhttps://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-6505...

I agree completely.. in these very woke days there are those who think that driving for fun is not on, burning petrol,. taking risks when there are endless new regulations that are at odds with the whole carefree world I grew up in.In the case of BBC they will replace it with something like Urban Cyclist or City Gardening or the like.

I listened to a podcast a few days ago with Brian Klein, Top Gear director. He said Freddie's injuries are nowhere near like what Hammond had from his famous accident but Freddie has asked for time to recover and reflect on it.
He doesn't go into any detail of what actually happened, but makes it sound like it's really affected him.

I'm sad that the BBC appear to have decided to axe the show completely. I honestly thought the show had become unwatchable, so I haven't watched it (appart from a few FFW early Harris episodes). You'd think they'd want to recast and reinvent the show, but as someone said we're more likely to get "Jeremy Vine cycling around London", or similar.
