Yeah I checked before booking everything. We are taking Wednesday 3rd to get there for it being open Thursday and Friday for tf.
FWIW It’s shut all day Friday for DN track day. TF will be evening only and possibly quite busy.

On the other hand for any petrolhead a DN day isn’t a bad thing to visit just to mooch round all the kit that attends……..

When I open the calendar for tourist drives I get this so I presumed it would be open Thursday and Friday.
Anyway, we’re going for the visit of the area as much as to drive the track so as long as we get some laps in we’ll be happy.

Driving in TF can be an amazing buzz but just follow the many good pieces of info from others. Be aware that TF can be extremely busy. Lots of very fast drivers in a vast variety of vehicles. So keep a very watchful eye on your mirrors, because in a rhd car visibility where you need it is not as clear as compared to a lhd car.
If cars or bikes are catching you up and surprising you then you are driving too fast to be able to access your position in relation to the other track users. Do not get sucked into going faster than your experience of the track should be, as you could be following someone with a far better car setup and experience of the track. Or indeed be following someone on their first lap, who could crash and you don’t want to join them.
Do not showboat where there are large gatherings of spectators.
Do not time your laps. Technically it’s illegal, as it contravenes the German road traffic laws that apply during tourist driving.
Stay off the kerbs and grass, as it’s not needed especially on your first laps and if you hit the wrong herbs they can easily assist you into the barriers.
Don’t be a Dick in the carpark and locality, people live here and have seen it all before and it impresses no-one.
Make sure you have funds available to bail you out if something goes very wrong. Which brings me to the most important one that many do not do. Read your insurance documents very carefully and understand all the small print and ramifications of driving unaware.
Lastly, enjoy your trip.
Very informative. Thanks very much. I fully intend to
Have my common sense cap on. 👍

Be aware Friday and Saturday traffic might be bad in the area as the circuit is hosting a tough mudder type event for 10,000 people.

Sight seeing, apart from the track I’d say its work doing ringwerk - the museum, even if you’ve been before the ticket is cheap, the karting is good fun (and electric) and the esports bar has motion sims which you can race friends / family on and can get quite competitive.

I plan on doing some sight seeing while I’m there is it a good spot to cycle or am I better off just driving around the place in the car. I wouldn’t mind bringing the bike if it’s feasible

Plenty of trails around and you can cycle the perimeter.

Yes and I am pretty sure there are places you can hire an mtb or emtb there too.

Have been going to do TF laps with bikes and cars for years. More recently my girlfriend has come with me and we make a long weekend of it via Bruges or Brussels and also try and catch some racing at the ‘ring. Dates haven’t worked so well for VLN so we’re going via Spa to catch some of the 12hrs first, so I’ll be in Adenau 7th & 8th of May this year.

And for ages I’ve wanted a passenger lap to see how it’s really done. Booked via rent4ring for Dale to take us round a few years ago but the Jag was out of order on the day! So will be trying again with someone for this year, probably the official’ AMG one.

Would definitely recommend the Hyundai taxi laps, such an impressive car with pro drivers really pushing the cars too!

Last time we did the Apex M3 in the morning and it was ok but the Hyundai laps in the afternoon completely blew it out of the water! Although the Apex M3 was an impressive car, it wasn't being used anywhere near the limits of what it could do. It was well driven but very much at a low percentage of what the car was actually capable of, trying to reduce the wear and tear on the car, it wasn't even going to the redline on the straights, never mind being close to the full braking or cornering force.

The Hyundai obviously has the benefit of being a manufacturer backed experience so they're not worried about the tyres and brakes being worn quicker but this means they were so much more on it! The car control from both Hyundai drivers was very impressive, there was 6 of us so we went round in their 2 cars bumper to bumper and everyone was in agreement, it was a much better taxi experience than the M3. It's also about a third of the price... Can't recommend it enough, we'll be doing it again next time biggrin

This is a funny one - people still do it (either overtly or covertly by timing their video footage at a later date), but the amount of throbbers over the past few years that jump on their high horse and try to take some moral 'high ground' without ascertaining the situation is noticeable.

I did 4 laps in 2017 and on the 3rd lap I gave a friend a ride around, when we got to the long haul up Kesselchen he showed me his mobile phone in his hand which was running the stopwatch app; people previously have intimated I should have pulled over, wrestled his phone off him and stopped the timer, quite unbelievable really rofl

That’s really good to know. I looked at what was available last night and dismissed the Hyundai one just assuming it wouldn’t be as thrilling! Cheers.

Hyundai are one of the firms who have a permanent R&D and testing base on the Meuspath industrial estate, so they are serious about it and I guess (as was the case previously with Jaguar Ring Taxis) will be lending support and encouragement to the taxis.

Best taxi lap I’ve done was the Apex GT2RS MR , boy can that thing shift in the right hands…lap was close to 7.00 BTG (and that wasn’t flat out!) so I doubt the Hyundai would be anywhere near that! I know it crashed at some point last year believe it was undergoing big repair job so assume it’ll be back in service at some point his season .

He's not saying the Hyundai is a low or sub 7 minute lap, he's saying they're pushed much harder.

Fair enough …think I’d still prefer a 9/10ths lap in the GT2RS than a 10/10ths one in a Hyundai !
