Sanity returning to Women's sports and welcome recognition that providing role models in this area is of much greater importance than pandering to fringe pressure groups.

Show how far it had gone when women's sport being reserved for women makes headlines.

Good! People making sensible decisions at last.

Seems perfectly sensible and I'd like to think the governing body have done their homework and consulted which the article suggests they have.

I don't believe you are a total woke. Woke people just don't say that.

Are you Tyler Durdan faking it?
I'm reclaiming the word. I know a lot of people do appreciate it isn't a negative one.

Probably not going to happen, it seems like a properly considered decision, and it's probably sensible.

The DSD (differences in sex development) rule change that comes along with it seems maybe more harsh, though. Even aside from whether it's right to apply the rule they have, the time frame means that those subject to it who could have completed in the next world athletics championship now cannot, as it is impossible for them to meet the required metric by then even if they wished to.

What will keir say
Who cares what he says, it's completely irrelevant to the decision made by World Athletics. They made a ruling that the competing
women will no doubt be delighted to hear.

Precisely

You can agree that it's up to the governing body of a sport to decide who is allowed to participate and still think that Transwomen are women - the two aren't mutually exclusive.

I've no issue with a governing body making these decisions.

Gender is a complex issue and the question that Kier Starmer was asked was a simplistic one and designed as a 'gotcha'

This is what happened.

"Speaking to LBC’s Nick Ferrari during a phone-in, Sir Keir, the Labour leader, was asked multiple times whether or not “a woman can have a penis”.

“I don’t think that discussing this issue in this way helps anyone in the long run,” he said.

“What I want to see is a reform of the law as it is, but I am also an advocate of safe spaces for women and I want to have a discussion that is... Anybody who genuinely wants to find a way through this, I want to discuss that with. I do find that too many people – in my view – retreat or hold a position of which is intolerant of others.

“And that’s not picking on any individual at all, but I don’t like intolerance, I like open discussion.”

"Asked by a caller whether it was fair that transgender women were allowed to compete in women’s sports, Sir Keir said it was a matter “for the sporting bodies to decide for themselves”, acknowledging that there were “difficult questions”.

What's wrong with that answer?

I think the redeeming feature of the announcement is that it's not a forever rule and they say they're going to continue research.

Note the difference in the tone and content of the comments between those who support trans people yet are capable of accepting a decision that doesn't ostensibly align with their position, compared with those who don't and aren't.

Only in mind. Hence the reason for them being banned for what should be obvious reasons.

Sensible decision. Sure there will eventually be open categories at major events to accommodate trans people etc.

I think that once more research is done and the current panic passes the rules will come back to somewhere between no trans people and a free for all.

The only issue I have with an open category alongside mens and womens is that you'll struggle to get enough people for it to be competitive.

Surely the "open" category would just get dominated by the men? That's why the women only category exists.

No it's not. Women's categories were first instituted because men didn't want to compete with women.

Only if you're easily persuaded by people asking disingenuously over-simplistic questions.
It's not really over simplistic is it?

There are two valid definitions of woman:

1) The one your doctor would use.
2) Someone who self identifies as a woman.

Now age, that's complicated.... Very few people *feel* *exactly* their age.

Decision has been made by the ruling body of the sport after careful consideration.

Which is how all sports should approach the issue.
