A better option would be the 718 4.0 I think.

Just my opinion though smile
I think the GT chassis and brakes make the difference compared to the GTS, if you're looking at GT cars the GTS isn't quite going to cut it.

4.0 GTS?..
It depends what for i guess... for pure road or as a daily yes.
As a track tool... a GT car wins every time.
Yeah fair enough, I was approaching it from a road car perspective.

And there's the dilemma, a new GT4 or a used GT3
What age of Gt3 would you get for £90K? Say 2014 , 2015? If you are looking t that age of car would a 2016 GT4 not be a better buy
For me the GT3 is a lovely lovely car but probably to fast and too big for the roads I like to thrash around in. But if it it had rear seats then it could be a fantastic car as you could use it occasionally as a family car and take the kids with you. But I guess a 4 seater would not look good at the track so hence the 2 seat layout. If that is the case then surely just get the GT4 nd use the £25-30K saving on some epic track days
The 991.1 GT3 is a great value package at the money especially the later cars with revised replacement engines backed by Porsche warranty.

Good that the 981 GT4 is, the GT3 really is on a different level if you don't mind PDK S.

The 991 GT3 is actually slightly narrower than the 718 GT4 mirror to mirror and both cars unlike many others which have become too bloated are imo of an optimum width for typical B road blasts unlike e.g. a 458 488 etc. the wider girth which typically adversely affects progress.

In terms of production numbers my OPC is receiving only 2 max 3 allocations for manual cars for the rest of 2020 and mine is an October build. PDK will be first run 2021 but future numbers are unknown tbh but fewer PDK cars are expected. Reckon there will be around 500 UK cars in total.

Usual forum talk of all these available 718 GT4 slots is largely bullst imo as not one poster can vouch for obtaining a slot by randomly ringing round OPCs and the allocation process is still the same as any Porsche GT by invitation only although good luck to anyone for trying if they manage to obtain a car.

If you do manage to secure an allocation for this year and actually want a car it may be prudent to take it simply because 2021 cars could well incur a 10% hard Brexit surcharge and Porsche may well be reluctant to absorb this bearing in mind the already wafer thin/ almost non existent profit margins on the GT4 and Spyder.

I don't buy that

Porsche make 5000 of these models WW, the margins are massive and Porsche are king at Options adding £10k £20k on each and every car sold.
I expect the718 to be no different they cannot even be arsed to fit a new gear box as an example and the cars are £90k a pop.

The margins will be the give or take same as a base Cayman other wise they would not get signed off.
this is why the new 4.0l GTS is a tad more money , more than the old GT4 in fact due to recouping that engine cost on the same platform.

they make £15k on ave per car they will be doing the same on the 718 GT cars no problem

You know as well as anyone the gearbox for the 718 GT4 was retained from the 981 GT4 solely to protect the mighty crown of the 911.

Difficult to prove but I reckon that the GT4 and Spyder are probably one of the least profitable cars Porsche make especially bearing in mind the lower production runs and list price on a basic car.

Yep we all know the cost of options but imo Porsche are on balance reasonably priced for what you get especially compared to other manufacturers offering effectively less for more ££.

the maths will add up I am sure for them selling 5000 4.0l engines on the very same platform.

the run will be that WW.

Well I paid my deposit today and locked down my spec:

https://cc.porsche.com/icc/ccCall.do?userID=EG&amp...

Car will be delivered in Oct/early November.

As the OP alluded to cars being delivered in 2021 could be subject to a 10% price increase an customers are being asked to sign that they accept this may happen.

I am delighted to get a allocation - my dealer only got 3 further slots so they have had 9 cars in total this year.

Very nice to see someone at last taking note and getting the Brushed aluminium interior package in anthracite.

Quite similar to the spec I chose for similar delivery date, except I went for more daily driver stuff like cruise and park sensors, oh and red! Interestingly I didn’t get quoted re the Brexit 2021 thing.

"Taking note" of what exactly? A freebie option in place of the standard silver trim to change it to dark grey?

With P11 buckets I'd always choose the matching carbon, but as always it's each to their own.

Coming from Caterhams where carbon looked and felt like carbon I’m afraid the Porsche Uber shiny stuff looks fake to my eye anyway - as you say each to their own!

It's more about the matching to me - the P11 buckets should always have the matching dash IMHO, and the sill guards smile

Yep I always spec carbon on Porsche GTs looks great with the buckets and most buyers demand it too so it helps resale. Good value too but imo the carbon sills are an expensive step too far especially illuminated lol.

The dark aluminium is a touch dull scratches and dents easily but usual story if some like it fine and each to their own.

I have a Boxster GTS on order for December delivery but a friend of mine has just cancelled his GT4 order so going to take that instead.

Always wanted a soft top but think this is a better buy in terms of residuals.

Are there any must have options on the GT4? Think I will go Python green.

Here’s my spec. Any views please? Are bucket seats essential? Black or satin wheels?

If you're going comfort seats, I'd get a GTS instead.

For a GT4, I'd go buckets and carbon trim with silver wheels and black calipers.

Thank you for the advice. Added buckets and this my new spec although also like Gentian which is cheaper than Python.

Can't understand why black calipers are specced especially at extra cost?

Depends your use of the car but concur with Twinfan on the buckets and carbon.

Gentian is ok but a non GT colour and probably the most specced colour on the GT4 so there will be loads around.

Being a dark colour it looks good especially with silver wheels black not so good.

Climate chrono and extended leather all good options.

Clubsport expensive as are ceramics on a GT4.
